The Line chart (a.k.a Line Graph) is the most basic option for looking at data over time. it is often used to visualise a trend in data over intervals of time, the line is often drawn chronologically. In these cases they are known as run charts.

Line charts are the most frequently used in finance to visualise change of values over time. They are used to represent changes in the prices of securities, company revenue sheets, and histories of major stock indexes. They are also useful for comparing different securities. In investing, specifically with respect to the field of technical analysis, line graphs are quite informative in allowing the user to visualise trends, which can greatly aid them in their analyses.
